Among them, the Academy Award®-nominated Attica, for Showtime; After Jackie and Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre for the History Channel; Crack: Cocaine, Corruption & Conspiracy for Netflix; and Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, and Freedom Riders, all for PBS. Upcoming Firelight Films productions include Becoming Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman: Visions of Freedom for Maryland Public Television/PBS and Creating the New World: The Transatlantic Slave Trade, a four-part documentary series for PBS.

Job Summary:

Firelight Films is looking for a Production Accountant to join our small but dynamic team. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Operations, this role will act as the key liaison between production and finance. Your primary goal will be to will ensure a smooth process in the management of the projects’ accounting and staffing during development, pre-production, production, and post-production

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Supporting payroll and HR functions
  • Ability to research & resolve account discrepancies
  • Processing vendor invoices and payments, while also generating and submitting billing invoices
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all project accounts
  • Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded
  • Review and verify invoices and check requests
  • Ensuring bills are paid timely and in the correct amount
  • Process weekly and monthly financial reports across projects 
  • Reconciling credit card transactions and allocating expenses in accounting software
  • Assisting with insurance requests and certificates
  • Preparing 1099s and making quarterly and annual tax filings and payments
  • Cross-checking production and overhead expenditures in budget tracking spreadsheets

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in a production accountant role 
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced environment with multiple departments to coordinate and liaise across
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to excel in situations that require juggling multiple projects and deadlines
  • Understanding of accounting rules and regulations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, and Google while being extremely computer savvy
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Superior attention to detail, with an ability to spot numerical errors
  • High energy, positive vibes, and a great attitude are key

Salary: 

We offer a salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
