Firelight Films was born almost two decades ago to address the deficit of films made by and about diverse communities, particularly people of color. Founded and led by MacArthur “Genius” Fellow Stanley Nelson and award-winning writer and philanthropy executive Marcia Smith in Harlem, NY, the organization has gone on to produce primetime programming for public television, receive every major broadcast award, and has had several theatrical releases.
Firelight Films productions have garnered multiple Primetime Emmy, Peabody, IDA, and Sundance awards. Among them, the Academy Award®-nominated Attica, for Showtime; After Jackie and Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre for the History Channel; Crack: Cocaine, Corruption & Conspiracy for Netflix; and Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, and Freedom Riders, all for PBS. Upcoming Firelight Films productions include Becoming Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman: Visions of Freedom for Maryland Public Television/PBS and Creating the New World: The Transatlantic Slave Trade, a four-part documentary series for PBS.
Firelight Films is looking for a Production Accountant to join our small but dynamic team. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Operations, this role will act as the key liaison between production and finance. Your primary goal will be to will ensure a smooth process in the management of the projects’ accounting and staffing during development, pre-production, production, and post-production
