CHANGING THE STORY

Founded by award-winning filmmaker Stanley Nelson, Firelight Films produces documentary films and develops strategies, partnerships, and materials to reach and engage diverse audiences.

Firelight Films productions have garnered multiple Primetime Emmys, Peabodys, and Sundance awards. Among them, the Academy Award®-nominated Attica, about the 1971 prison rebellion in upstate New York, for Showtime; Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre for the HISTORY Channel; Crack: Cocaine, Corruption & Conspiracy for Netflix; and Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, and Freedom Riders, all for PBS. Recent Firelight Films productions include Becoming Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman: Visions of Freedom, now streaming via PBS, and Sound of the Police, for ABC News Studios, now streaming on Hulu. Forthcoming projects include Creating the New World, a four-part series for PBS.
